Don't be like this photo!!!
There are reasons people spend extra money on voice mail it's because they expect you to effin' leave a message!!! So don't hang up. Christ! how hard is it to say Hey, its so and so I'll try again later at the minimal that should be expected. I know there is SMS and email and other ways we all can get a hold of each others these days but if you take the time to dial the digits, whats 5 more seconds going to cost you in life?? Seriously. LEAVE A FREAKIN MESSAGE!

the reason why i stopped leaving messages for most people is they have flat out admitted to me that they don't even check them. they just look at the number on the caller id, and return the call. i would get so fed up leaving these detailed, sometimes rather important messages. it's a catch 22, but for you, i will always leave a message.
